If you’re not familiar with the Gartner Critical Capabilities reports, in my opinion, they provide a rigorous comparison of vendors across a set of (critical) capabilities, and they are meant to be read along with the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ reports for a deep understanding of how the different vendors compare.
In this post, I’ll be covering the 2024 Gartner® Critical Capabilities for Data Integration Tools report, the companion document to the 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools, in which, I was happy to report, Denodo was again recognized as a Leader, and as a company, we are all extremely pleased to be recognized for five years in a row.
Strong Capabilities
The four Use Cases that guide the analysis in this year’s report are: Data Engineering, Enabling Modern Data Architectures, Enabling Less-Technical Data Integration, and Operational Data Integration.
I would like to focus on two of the above Use Cases, Enabling Modern Data Architectures and Enabling Less-Technical Data Integration, as these are two that I feel are well aligned with the Denodo Platform.
Throughout the report, a few supporting capabilities are mentioned in relation to these Use Cases:
- Data Virtualization
- Augmented Data Integration
- Metadata Management
- Data Governance
For the rest of this post, I’d like to say a few words about each of these.
Data Virtualization
Data virtualization is a data integration technology that can integrate data without having to first replicate the data into a common repository. The Denodo Platform, a logical data management solution, was built on a strong foundation of data virtualization that has been steadily gaining new capabilities for more than 25 years.
Augmented Data Integration
The Denodo Platform leverages data virtualization to establish a logical data-access layer that abstracts data consumers from the complexities of accessing the various underlying data sources. The logical layer itself contains no actual data, only the metadata required to access the underlying data sources. In addition, the Denodo Platform leverages this rich metadata to analyze usage, transactions, and workloads, all of which is essential for augmented data integration.
Metadata Management
The Denodo Platform centrally manages active metadata to streamline data management tasks and enable full-featured data marketplace interfaces, powered by AI, that can recommend data sets based on a user’s previous activity.
Data Governance
This logical architecture, based on centrally managed, active metadata, also enables data governance and data security policies to be managed from a single point of control across the entire organization.
A Modern, Business-Friendly Data Integration Solution
In addition to the points I made above, I can offer two more reasons why I believe the Denodo Platform is well suited for addressing the needs of less-technical users and enabling modern data architectures:
- For less-technical users, the Denodo Platform also offers a powerful semantic layer that can be deployed above the multiple data silos that can be found within data lakehouses as well as myriad other types of data sources, to translate data, on-the-fly, into the preferred terminology of business users and other diverse recipients.
- For modern data architectures, the Denodo Platform’s logical approach also enables zero-downtime migrations from legacy to modern systems.
In short, anyone in need of a flexible, modern data integration solution should take a serious look at the Denodo Platform.
