Successful AI Transformation: Democratizing AI with Conversational Access to Enterprise Data
Reading Time: 3 minutes

This is the last post in my four-part series about AI transformation. The third covered the role of the AI team, the second covered the role of the data team, and the first covered the core ingredient of trust.

For many organizations, the ultimate goal of AI is simple: Enable the business to make better decisions and actions, even autonomously. And this depends on both AI and human users being able to access trusted data, as described in the previous posts in this series.

But historically, access to enterprise data has been limited to more technical or data-savvy users, such as data analysts, data scientists, and engineers. The majority of business users didn’t have the skills or the tools. Most business users and their leadership often depended on these technical, specialized roles to generate reports, build dashboards, or answer complex questions, fed by data pipelines that were constructed in advance. This introduced data delivery delays, and also the risk of misalignment between business users and upstream technical teams.

Moreover, those pipelines were based on a fixed understanding of business needs communicated by business users at a given point in time, as well as data that was delivered to fit pre-defined data models, dashboards, and reports. But in reality, business needs are continually changing, with often unpredictable edge cases. Business needs are dynamic, not static. For AI to be truly transformative, it must account for this dynamic reality.

From Dashboards to Conversations

Many modern AI interfaces allow users to interact with agents and their underlying data using natural language. Instead of navigating dashboards or writing queries, business users can simply ask questions and explore data conversationally.

But this new interaction model introduces an important challenge: How can organizations ensure that conversational AI responses and actions are based on trusted data, and that they are therefore accurate, explainable, and governed?

The answer, once again, lies in the underlying data foundation.

A Trusted Data Marketplace for All

The Denodo Platform provides business users with a Data Marketplace, a centralized portal where users can discover and access trusted data products across the enterprise.

The marketplace functions much like an e-commerce experience for data, enabling users to easily find the datasets they need. If your users can shop on Amazon, they can use Denodo’s Data Marketplace. Hopefully this is nearly 100% of users in your organization!

With Denodo’s latest version, Denodo Platform 9.4, this experience becomes even more powerful. This version introduces a conversational AI interface embedded directly within the Data Marketplace, enabling users to ask questions and explore enterprise data through multi-turn conversations with an intelligent reasoning agent embedded within the Denodo Platform, supported by the Data Marketplace’s comprehensive data discovery, access, and delivery capabilities.

This enables business users to:

  • Ask questions in natural language, ranging from the simple (e.g. “what was last quarter’s revenue in the U.S.”) to the more deeply analytical (e.g. “analyze the reasons for last quarter’s revenue shortfall and suggest solutions”).
  • Find, access, and utilize underlying data products directly, including seeing the data that AI agents are using for particular decisions and actions.
  • Explore insights interactively, with the ability to conduct ongoing conversations, using data that they can easily discover along the way.

Most importantly, every interaction remains grounded in trusted, governed data products. In short, business users can talk to their enterprise data and trust the results of those conversations.

Empowering the Entire Organization

When business users can access trusted data easily, organizations unlock enormous potential. Decisions that once required lengthy data requests can now happen in minutes. Employees across departments — from finance, to operations, to marketing — can explore insights independently. And AI agents can collaborate with human decision-makers, augmenting their expertise with real-time intelligence.

Because this experience is built on a single logical data layer for all enterprise data, organizations can maintain consistently up-to-date data, with consistent business context and policy enforcement across every interaction.

The Future of AI-Driven Enterprises

Agentic AI represents a profound shift in how organizations operate. AI systems will increasingly monitor operations, detect opportunities, and recommend or execute actions across business functions. But this future depends on one critical factor: trust.

AI must be grounded in data that is:

  • live
  • contextually relevant
  • governed

Logical data management provides the foundation that makes this possible.

With the new innovations in Denodo Platform 9.4, organizations can strengthen that foundation and accelerate their journey from AI experimentation to trusted, production-ready AI systems.
